THE PTERODACTYL'S NEST This huge nest stood at the entrance to CrossBow for a little over a year. (Keep in mind, I used the past tense). During that time, it illlicited more comments...by everyone, than the entire bulk of our sculpture garden. The FedEx driver liked to joke about not wanting to see the mommy and on and on it went. Strangely, however, the animal kingdom was not amused...at all. Pamela began calling that quadrant the NO-FLY ZONE because all birds stayed away. All squirrels, too, as well as pretty much of everything. Apparently they didn't want to run into whatever it was that was siting one 20" diameter eggs. It was whimsical, fun (at least for us) and everyone coming to our house had some comment to make about it. Then, last October, Hurricane Sandy hit. It took out 31 big trees...and our big humongous nest. Talk about Deus ex Machina.
