Way way back, right at the beginning of it all when I was young, arrogant, and dumb. Who isn't in their 20s? I had drawn a line in the sand that real artists don't paint their sculptures. Well good luck with that concept. But slowly, as we began to make a name for ourselves out in Tucson, our custom commissions began to increase and the requests for color could not be ignored. At first I did it grudgingly thinking, If I wanted to be a painter I would have become one, but very quickly I discovered the wisdom in closing no doors whatsoever in the arts. B.B. King once wisely said, "If it sounds good...It is good." To paraphrase his wisdom, I would say, if it looks good (to you) it is good, (to you) and if you try to second guess what everyone else on the planet will like...well good luck with that one as well!
